A hardware 71device may be supported with a character or block 72.Em device driver , 73or it may be used within the networking subsystem and have a 74.Em network interface driver . 75Block and character devices are accessed through files in the file 76system of a special type; see 77.Xr mknod 8 . 78Network interfaces are indirectly accessed through the interprocess 79communication facilities provided by the system; see 80.Xr socket 2 . 81.Pp 82A hardware device is identified to the system at configuration time 83and the appropriate device or network interface driver is then compiled 84into the system. When the resultant system is booted, the 85autoconfiguration facilities in the system probe for the device 86and, if found, enable the software support for it. 87If a device does not respond at autoconfiguration 88time it is not accessible at any time afterwards. 89To enable a device which did not autoconfigure, 90the system must be rebooted. 91.Pp 92The autoconfiguration system is described in 93.Xr autoconf 4 . 94A list of the supported devices is given below. 95.Sh SUPPORTED SYSTEMS 96The hpcarm port supports 97.Tn StrongARM 98based Windows\ CE PDA machines. 99The current supports models are: 100.Pp 101HP Jornada series 102.Bl -bullet -offset indent -compact 103.It 104HP Jornada 710, 720, 728, 820 105.El 106.Pp 107Compaq iPAQ series 108.Bl -bullet -offset indent -compact 109.It 110iPAQ H3600 111.El 112.\" 113.Sh LIST OF DEVICES 114The devices listed below are supported in this incarnation of the system. 115Devices are indicated by their functional interface. 116Not all supported devices are listed. 117.Pp 118Standard SA-11x0 on-chip peripheral devices: 119.Bl -tag -width "xxxxxxxx" -compact -offset indent 120.It sacom 121Serial communication interface 122.It sacpcic 123PCMCIA controller 124.It saip 125Bus for integrated peripheral devices 126.It saost 127Operating System timer 128.El 129.Pp 130Network interfaces: 131.Bl -tag -width "xxxxxxxx" -compact -offset indent 132.It an 133Aironet 4500/4800 and Cisco 340/350 wireless network devices 134.It ep 1353Com EtherLink III Ethernet devices 136.It ne 137NE2000 and compatible Ethernet devices 138.It wi 139WaveLAN/IEEE and PRISM-II 802.11 wireless network devices 140.El 141.Pp 142Pointer devices: 143.Bl -tag -width "xxxxxxxx" -compact -offset indent 144.It j720lcd 145LCD screen control of the HP Jornada 7xx series machines 146.It j720tp 147Touch screen of the HP Jornada 7xx series machines 148.El 149.\" 150.Sh SEE ALSO 151.Xr config 1 , 152.Xr autoconf 4 153.Sh BUGS 154This manual page is incomplete. 155
