In [1], a few new insns are proposed to expand BPF ISA to
. fixing the limitation of existing insn (e.g., 16bit jmp offset)
. adding new insns which may improve code quality
(sign_ext_ld, sign_ext_mov, st)
. feature complete (sdiv, smod)
. better user experience (bswap)

This patch implemented insn encoding for
. sign-extended load
. sign-extended mov
. sdiv/smod
. bswap insns
. unconditional jump with 32bit offset

The new bswap insns are generated under cpu=v4 for __builtin_bswap.
For cpu=v3 or earlier, for __builtin_bswap, be or le insns are generated
which is not intuitive for the user.

To support 32-bit branch offset, a 32-bit ja (JMPL) insn is implemented.
For conditional branch which is beyond 16-bit offset, llvm will do
some transformation 'cond_jmp' -> 'cond_jmp + jmpl' to simulate 32bit
conditional jmp. See BPFMIPeephole.cpp for details. The algorithm is
hueristic based. I have tested bpf selftest pyperf600 with unroll account
600 which can indeed generate 32-bit jump insn, e.g.,

Eduard is working on to add 'st' insn to cpu=v4.

A list of llc flags:
disable-ldsx, disable-movsx, disable-bswap,
disable-sdiv-smod, disable-gotol
can be used to disable a particular insn for cpu v4.
For example, user can do:
llc -march=bpf -mcpu=v4 -disable-movsx t.ll
to enable cpu v4 without movsx insns.

Currently for the branch insn like
"if $dst "#OpcodeStr#" $imm goto $BrDst"
The $BrDst range needs to be in the range of [INT16_MIN, INT16_MAX].

When running bpf selftest with latest llvm, I found
pyperf600.o generated insn with range outside
of [INT16_MIN, INT16_MAX], which caused verifier failure.
See below insn #12.

We may need to add new insn to extend the range of $BrDst.
This patch added a fatal error if out of range so compiler can warn
the otherwise incorrect code generation.

On some architectures such as Arm and X86 the encoding for a nop may
change depending on the subtarget in operation at the time of
encoding. This change replaces the per module MCSubtargetInfo retained
by the targets AsmBackend in favour of passing through the local
MCSubtargetInfo in operation at the time.

On Arm using the architectural NOP instruction can have a performance
benefit on some implementations.

For Arm I've deleted the copy of the AsmBackend's MCSubtargetInfo to
limit the chances of this causing problems in the future. I've not
done this for other targets such as X86 as there is more frequent use
of the MCSubtargetInfo and it looks to be for stable properties that
we would not expect to vary per function.

This change required threading STI through MCNopsFragment and
MCBoundaryAlignFragment.

I've attempted to take into account the in tree experimental backends.

R_BPF_NONE for no relocation

Currently, BPF only contains three relocations:
R_BPF_NONE for no relocation
R_BPF_64_64 for LD_imm64 and normal 64-bit data relocation
R_BPF_64_32 for call insn and normal 32-bit data relocation

Also .BTF and .BTF.ext sections contain symbols in allocated
program and data sections. These two sections reserved 32bit
space to hold the offset relative to the symbol's section.
When LLVM JIT is used, the LLVM ExecutionEngine RuntimeDyld
may attempt to resolve relocations for .BTF and .BTF.ext,
which we want to prevent. So we used R_BPF_NONE for such relocations.

This all works fine until when we try to do linking of
multiple objects.
. R_BPF_64_64 handling of LD_imm64 vs. normal 64-bit data
is different, so lld target->relocate() needs more context
to do a correct job.
. The same for R_BPF_64_32. More context is needed for
lld target->relocate() to differentiate call insn vs.
normal 32-bit data relocation.
. Since relocations in .BTF and .BTF.ext are set to R_BPF_NONE,
they will not be relocated properly when multiple .BTF/.BTF.ext
sections are merged by lld.

This patch intends to address this issue by adding additional
relocation kinds:
R_BPF_64_ABS64 for normal 64-bit data relocation
R_BPF_64_ABS32 for normal 32-bit data relocation
R_BPF_64_NODYLD32 for .BTF and .BTF.ext style relocations.
The old R_BPF_64_{64,32} semantics:
R_BPF_64_64 for LD_imm64 relocation
R_BPF_64_32 for call insn relocation

The existing R_BPF_64_64/R_BPF_64_32 mapping to numeric values
is maintained. They are the most common use cases for
bpf programs and we want to maintain backward compatibility
as much as possible.

ExecutionEngine RuntimeDyld BPF relocations are adjusted as well.
R_BPF_64_{ABS64,ABS32} relocations will be resolved properly and
other relocations will be ignored.
Two tests are added for RuntimeDyld. Not handling R_BPF_64_NODYLD32 in
RuntimeDyldELF.cpp will result in "Relocation type not implemented yet!"
fatal error.

FK_SecRel_4 usages in BPFAsmBackend.cpp and BPFELFObjectWriter.cpp
are removed as they are not triggered in BPF backend.
BPF backend used FK_SecRel_8 for LD_imm64 instruction operands.

Summary:
Before this patch, `relaxInstruction` takes three arguments, the first
argument refers to the instruction before relaxation and the third
argument is the output instruction after relaxation. There are two quite
strange things:
1) The first argument's type is `const MCInst &`, the third
argument's type is `MCInst &`, but they may be aliased to the same
variable
2) The backends of ARM, AMDGPU, RISC-V, Hexagon assume that the third
argument is a fresh uninitialized `MCInst` even if `relaxInstruction`
may be called like `relaxInstruction(Relaxed, STI, Relaxed)` in a
loop.

In this patch, we drop the thrid argument, and let `relaxInstruction`
directly modify the given instruction. Also, this patch fixes the bug https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45580, which is introduced by D77851, and
breaks the assumption of ARM, AMDGPU, RISC-V, Hexagon.

[BPF] Don't fail for static variables

Currently, the LLVM will print an error like
Unsupported relocation: try to compile with -O2 or above,
or check your static variable usage
if user defines more than one static variables in a single
ELF section (e.g., .bss or .data).

There is ongoing effort to support static and global
variables in libbpf and kernel. This patch removed the
assertion so user programs with static variables won't
fail compilation.

The static variable in-section offset is written to
the "imm" field of the corresponding to-be-relocated
bpf instruction. Below is an example to show how the
application (e.g., libbpf) can relate variable to relocations.

We understand that people may be surprised that we're moving the header
entirely to discuss the new license. We checked this carefully with the
Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach.

Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM
project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers
include that license only. Some of our contributors have contributed
code under our old license, and accordingly, we have retained a copy of
our old license notice in the top-level files in each project and
repository.

In BPFAsmBackend applyFixup(), there is an assertion for FixedValue to be 0.
This may not be true, esp. for optimiation level 0.
For example, in the above bug, for the following two
static variables:
@bpf_map_lookup_elem = internal global i8* (i8*, i8*)*
inttoptr (i64 1 to i8* (i8*, i8*)*), align 8
@bpf_map_update_elem = internal global i32 (i8*, i8*, i8*, i64)*
inttoptr (i64 2 to i32 (i8*, i8*, i8*, i64)*), align 8

The static variable @bpf_map_update_elem will have a symbol
offset of 8 and a FK_SecRel_8 with FixupValue 8 will cause
the assertion if llvm is built with -DLLVM_ENABLE_ASSERTIONS=ON.

The above relocations will not exist if the program is compiled
with optimization level -O1 and above as the compiler optimizes
those static variables away. In the below error message, -O2
is suggested as this is the common practice.

Note that FixedValue = 0 in applyFixup() does exist and is valid,
e.g., for the global variable my_map in the above bug. The bpf
loader will process them properly for map_id's before loading
the program into the kernel.

The static variables, which are not optimized away by compiler,
may have FK_SecRel_8 relocation with non-zero FixedValue.

The patch removed the offending assertion and will issue
a hard error as below if the FixedValue in applyFixup()
is not 0.

On targets like Arm some relaxations may only be performed when certain
architectural features are available. As functions can be compiled with
differing levels of architectural support we must make a judgement on
whether we can relax based on the MCSubtargetInfo for the function. This
change passes through the MCSubtargetInfo for the function to
fixupNeedsRelaxation so that the decision on whether to relax can be made
per function. In this patch, only the ARM backend makes use of this
information. We must also pass the MCSubtargetInfo to applyFixup because
some fixups skip error checking on the assumption that relaxation has
occurred, to prevent code-generation errors applyFixup must see the same
MCSubtargetInfo as fixupNeedsRelaxation.

Currently it's not possible to access MCSubtargetInfo from a TgtMCAsmBackend.
D20830 threaded an MCSubtargetInfo reference through
MCAsmBackend::relaxInstruction, but this isn't the only function that would
benefit from access. This patch removes the Triple and CPUString arguments
from createMCAsmBackend and replaces them with MCSubtargetInfo.

This patch just changes the interface without making any intentional
functional changes. Once in, several cleanups are possible:
* Get rid of the awkward MCSubtargetInfo handling in ARMAsmBackend
* Support 16-bit instructions when valid in MipsAsmBackend::writeNopData
* Get rid of the CPU string parsing in X86AsmBackend and just use a SubtargetFeature for HasNopl
* Emit 16-bit nops in RISCVAsmBackend::writeNopData if the compressed instruction set extension is enabled (see D41221)

This change initially exposed PR35686, which has since been resolved in r321026.

direct and indirect function calls.
Remove obsolete error from BPF backend.
Make call to use PCRel_4 fixup.
'bpf to bpf' calls are distinguished from 'bpf to kernel' calls
by insn->src_reg == BPF_PSEUDO_CALL == 1 which is used as relocation
indicator similar to ld_imm64->src_reg == BPF_PSEUDO_MAP_FD == 1
The actual 'call' instruction remains the same for both
'bpf to kernel' and 'bpf to bpf' calls.

A number of backends (AArch64, MIPS, ARM) have been using
MCContext::reportError to report issues such as out-of-range fixup values in
their TgtAsmBackend. This is great, but because MCContext couldn't easily be
threaded through to the adjustFixupValue helper function from its usual
callsite (applyFixup), these backends ended up adding an MCContext* argument
and adding another call to applyFixup to processFixupValue. Adding an
MCContext parameter to applyFixup makes this unnecessary, and even better -
applyFixup can take a reference to MCContext rather than a potentially null
pointer.
