35.Nd Micrel 8842/8841 PCI Ethernet controller driver
36.Sh SYNOPSIS
37.Cd "kse* at pci? dev ? function ?"
38.Sh DESCRIPTION
39The
40.Nm
41driver supports Ethernet interfaces based on the Micrel
428842/8841 PCI Ethernet chips.

49.Sh AUTHORS
50The
51.Nm
52driver was written by
53.An Tohru Nishimura .
54.Sh BUGS
55The 8842 has 2 Ethernet ports which behave as a managed switch to
56bridge each other.
57It works like a T-shape connector of Ethernet data flow in which
58the Ethernet controller sits at the leg of the T.
59Frames can flow between the two ports while traffic destined
60for the 8842 reaches the EMAC.
61The
62.Nm
63driver is not aware of the second port's existence and treats the
648842 as if it was a single port 8841.
65The second port PHY is always auto select.
66The PDF documentation is unclear and inconsistent about whether
67the Rx DMA alignment restriction is removed or not.
68The __STRICT_ALIGNMENT case is not written.
69Advanced features like flow volume bound, VLAN tag insertion/removal,
70and detailed MIB counters are not implemented and remain uncontrollable
71by the
72.Nm
73driver.
74UDP4CSUM is not very useful since the HW has an implementation
75error for the case when a large UDP datagram is fragmented into
76MTU sized frames.
