1NetBSD/sun3 _VER runs on most Sun3 machines, including: 2 3/50, 3/60, 3/110 3 3/75, 3/150, 3/160 4 3/260, 3/280, 3/E 5 6NetBSD/sun3 _VER does not run on the Sun3/80 (sun3x class) 7but that is presently handled as a separate distribution. 8Use NetBSD/sun3x for Sun3/80 and Sun3/470 support. 9 10The minimal configuration requires 4M of RAM and about 80MB of disk 11space. To install the entire system requires much more disk space 12(approx. 100MB additional space is necessary for full sources). 13To run X or compile the system, more RAM is recommended. Good 14performance requires 8MB of RAM, or 16 MB when running the 15X Window System. 16 17Here is a table of recommended HD partition sizes for a full install: 18 partition: advise, with X, needed, with X 19 root (/) 20M 20M 15M 15M 20 user (/usr) 95M 125M 75M 105M 21 swap ----- 2M for every M ram ----- 22 local (/usr/local) up to you 23 24As you may note the recommended size of /usr is 20M greater than 25needed. This is to leave room for a kernel source and compile tree as 26you will probably want to compile your own kernel. (GENERIC is large 27and bulky to accommodate all people). 28 29Note that the sun3 installation procedure uses a `miniroot' image 30which is placed into the swap area of the disk. The swap partition 31must be at least as large as the miniroot image (8MB). 32 33The following Sun3 hardware is supported: 34 35 Serial ports (RS232): 36 built-in ttya, ttyb 37 38 Video adapters: 39 bwtwo, cgtwo, cgfour 40 41 Network interfaces: 42 On-board Lance Ethernet 43 On-board or VME Intel Ethernet 44 Sun3/E SCSI/Ethernet board 45 46 SCSI: (Most SCSI disks, tapes, CD-ROMs, etc.) 47 On-board "si" (SCSI-3) 48 VME "si" (SCSI-3) board 49 Sun3/E SCSI/Ethernet board 50 51 SMD Disks: (the big, heavy ones 8^) 52 Xylogics 450/451 53 Xylogics 753/7053 54 55 Input devices: 56 Sun keyboard and mouse 57 58 Miscellaneous: 59 Battery-backed real-time clock. 60 61If it's not on this list, there is no support for it in this release. 62
