1NetBSD/sun3 1.2 runs on most Sun3 machines, including: 2 3/50, 3/60, 3/110 3 3/75, 3/150, 3/160 4 3/260, 3/280 5 6NetBSD/sun3 1.2 does not run on the Sun3/80 (sun3x class) 7because the sun3x MMU and other devices are very different. 8 9The minimal configuration requires 4M of RAM and ~80MB of disk space. 10To install the entire system requires much more disk space (approx. 11100MB additional space is necessary for full sources). To run X 12or compile the system, more RAM is recommended. Good performance 13requires 8MB of RAM, or 16 MB when running the X Window System. 14 15Here is a table of recommended HD partition sizes for a full install: 16 partition: advise needed 17 root (/) 15M 10M 18 user (/usr) 80M 45M 19 swap (2 or 3 * RAM) 8M 20 Anything else is up to you! 21 22Note that the sun3 installation procedure uses a `miniroot' image 23which is placed into the swap area of the disk. The swap partition 24must be large enough to hold this miniroot image. 25 26The following Sun3 hardware is supported: 27 28 Serial ports (RS232): 29 built-in ttya, ttyb 30 31 Video adapters: 32 bwtwo, cgtwo, cgfour 33 34 Network interfaces: 35 On-board Lance Ethernet (le) 36 On-board or VME Intel Ethernet (ie) 37 38 SCSI: (Most SCSI disks, tapes, CD-ROMs, etc.) 39 On-board "si" (SCSI-3) [Note 1] 40 VME "si" (SCSI-3) board [Note 1] 41 42 SMD Disks: (the big, heavy ones 8^) 43 Xylogics 450/451 [Note 2] 44 Xylogics 753/7053 [Note 2] 45 46 Input devices: 47 Sun keyboard and mouse 48 49 Miscellaneous: 50 Battery-backed real-time clock. 51 52Note 1: 53 The "si" driver now supports DMA and disconnect/reselect. 54 DMA is enabled by default, but not disconnect/reselect. 55 56Note 2: 57 The SMD disk drivers ("xd" and "xy") are working but 58 have not had much testing. (Probably need work.) 59 60If it's not on this list, there is no support for it in this release. 61
