1The Atari-specific portion of the NetBSD 1.2 release is found in the 2"atari" subdirectory of the distribution. That subdirectory is layed 3out as follows: 4 5.../NetBSD-1.2/atari/ 6 binary/ atari binary distribution sets; 7 see below. 8 9 floppies/ atari boot and installation 10 floppies; see below. 11 12 security/ atari security distribution; 13 see below; 14 15 utils.netbsd/ 16 utils.tos/ Miscellaneous atari 17 installation utilities; see 18 installation section, below. 19 20There are three atari floppy images to be found in the "atari/floppies" 21subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.2 distribution. One of them is a 22bootable TOS kernel floppy and the other two are installation floppy's. 23They are described in more detail below. There are gzipped versions 24of each available, for easier downloading. (The gzipped version 25have the ".gz" extension added to their names.) 26 27Bootable Kernel floppy: 28 29 This TOS disk contains the loadbsd and chg_part programs 30 and the BOOT kernel. It is setup so that you can insert it 31 int your floppy drive, and start the programs from GEM. 32 33 This floppy is named boot-12.fs 34 35Installation floppy: 36 37 This disk contains a BSD root file system setup to help 38 you install the rest of NetBSD. This includes formatting 39 and mounting your root and /usr partitions and getting 40 ready to extract (and possibly first fetching) the distribution 41 sets. There is enough on this file system to allow you to 42 make a slip connection, configure an ethernet, mount an NFS 43 file system or ftp. You can also load distribution sets from 44 a SCSI tape or from one of your existing TOS partitions. 45 46 This floppy's are named "miniroot-12.fs.1" and "miniroot-12.fs.2". 47 48The NetBSD/atari binary distribution sets contain the binaries which 49comprise the NetBSD 1.2 release for the atari. There are seven binary 50distribution sets, and the "security" distribution set. The binary 51distribution sets can be found in subdirectories of the "atari/binary" 52subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.2 distribution tree, and are as follows: 53 54 base12 The NetBSD/atari 1.2 base binary distribution. You 55 MUST install this distribution set. It contains the 56 base NetBSD utilities that are necessary for the 57 system to run and be minimally functional. It 58 includes shared library support, and excludes 59 everything described below. 60 [ 8M gzipped, 22M uncompressed ] 61 62 comp12 The NetBSD/atari Compiler tools. All of the tools 63 relating to C, C++, and FORTRAN (yes, there are two!). 64 This set includes the system include files 65 (/usr/include), the linker, the compiler tool chain, 66 and the various system libraries (except the shared 67 libraries, which are included as part of the base 68 set). This set also includes the manual pages for all 69 of the utilities it contains, as well as the system 70 call and library manual pages. 71 [ 5M gzipped, 18M uncompressed ] 72 73 etc12 This distribution set contains the system 74 configuration files that reside in /etc and in several 75 other places. This set MUST be installed if you are 76 installing the system from scratch, but should NOT be 77 used if you are upgrading. (If you are upgrading, 78 it's recommended that you get a copy of this set and 79 CAREFULLY upgrade your configuration files by hand.) 80 [ 70K gzipped, 360K uncompressed ] 81 82 games12 This set includes the games and their manual pages. 83 [ 3M gzipped, 7M uncompressed ] 84 85 man12 This set includes all of the manual pages for the 86 binaries and other software contained in the base set. 87 Note that it does not include any of the manual pages 88 that are included in the other sets. 89 [ 900K gzipped, 4M uncompressed ] 90 91 misc12 This set includes the system dictionaries (which are 92 rather large), the typesettable document set, and 93 man pages for other architectures which happen to be 94 installed from the source tree by default. 95 [ 2M gzipped, 7M uncompressed ] 96 97 text12 This set includes NetBSD's text processing tools, 98 including groff, all related programs, and their 99 manual pages. 100 [ 784K gzipped, 3M uncompressed ] 101 102The atari security distribution set is named "secr12" and can be found 103in the "atari/security" subdirectory of the NetBSD 1.2 distribution 104tree. It contains crypt.c (the source file for the DES encryption 105algorithm) and the binaries which depend on it. It can only be found 106on those sites which carry the complete NetBSD distribution and that 107can legally obtain it. (Remember, because of United States law, this 108distribution set may not be exported to locations outside of the 109United States and Canada.) [ 119K gzipped, 300K uncompressed ] 110 111The atari binary distribution sets are distributed in the same form as 112the source distribution sets; catted together, the members of a set 113form a gzipped tar file. Each atari binary distribution set also has 114its own "CKSUMS" file, just as the source distribution sets do. 115 116The instructions given for extracting the source sets work equally 117well for the binary sets, but it is worth noting that if you use that 118method, the files are extracted "below" the current directory. That 119is, if you want to extract the binaries "into" your system, i.e. 120replace the system binaries with them, you have to run the "tar xvfp" 121from /. Also note that if you upgrade or install this way, those 122programs that you are using at the time will NOT be replaced. If you 123follow the normal installation or upgrade procedures, this will be 124taken care of for you. 125
