To that end, we have a few ground rules that we ask 23people to adhere to. This code applies equally to the core development team, 24open source contributors and those seeking help and guidance. 25 26This isn't an exhaustive list of things that you can't do. Rather, take it in 27the spirit in which it's intended - a guide to make it easier to enrich all of 28us and the technical communities in which we participate. 29 30This code of conduct applies to all spaces managed by the BIND 9 project or 31Internet Systems Consortium. This includes chat, the mailing lists, the issue 32tracker, and any other fora created by the project team which the 33community uses for communication. In addition, violations of this code outside 34these spaces may affect a person's ability to participate within them. 35 36If you believe someone is violating the code of conduct, we ask that you report 37it by emailing [conduct@isc.org](conduct@isc.org). For more details please see 38our [Reporting Guidelines](https://www.isc.org/conductreporting/). 39 40* **Be friendly and patient.** 41* **Be welcoming.** We strive to be a community that welcomes and supports 42 people of all backgrounds and identities. This includes, but is not limited to 43 members of any race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, colour, immigration 44 status, social and economic class, educational level, sex, sexual orientation, 45 gender identity and expression, age, size, family status, political belief, 46 religion, and mental and physical ability. 47* **Be considerate.** Your work will be used by other people, and you in turn 48 will depend on the work of others. Any decision you take will affect users and 49 colleagues, and you should take those consequences into account when making 50 decisions. Remember that we're a world-wide community, so you might not be 51 communicating in someone else's primary language. 52* **Be respectful.** Not all of us will agree all the time, but disagreement is 53 no excuse for poor behavior and poor manners. We might all experience some 54 frustration now and then, but we cannot allow that frustration to turn into a 55 personal attack. It's important to remember that a community where people feel 56 uncomfortable or threatened is not a productive one. Members of the BIND 9 57 community should be respectful when dealing with other members as well as with 58 people outside the BIND 9 community. 59* **Be careful in the words that you choose.** We are a community of 60 professionals, and we conduct ourselves professionally. Be kind to others. Do 61 not insult or put down other participants. Harassment and other exclusionary 62 behavior aren't acceptable. This includes, but is not limited to: 63 * Violent threats or language directed against another person. 64 * Discriminatory jokes and language. 65 * Posting sexually explicit or violent material. 66 * Posting (or threatening to post) other people's personally identifying 67 information ("doxing"). 68 * Personal insults, especially those using racist or sexist terms. 69 * Unwelcome sexual attention. 70 * Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior. 71 * Repeated harassment of others. In general, if someone asks you to stop, then 72 stop. 73* **When we disagree, try to understand why.** Disagreements, both social and 74 technical, happen all the time and BIND 9 is no exception. It is important 75 that we resolve disagreements and differing views constructively. Remember 76 that we're different. The strength of BIND 9 comes from its varied community, 77 people from a wide range of backgrounds. Different people have different 78 perspectives on issues. Being unable to understand why someone holds a 79 viewpoint doesn't mean that they're wrong. Don't forget that it is human to 80 err and blaming each other doesn't get us anywhere. Instead, focus on helping 81 to resolve issues and learning from mistakes. 82 83Original text courtesy of the [Django Code of Conduct](https://www.djangoproject.com/conduct/) 84project. 85
